Josep Safont

If I could be, I would choose to be the moment

Under the title "If it could be, I would choose to be the moment" the artist Josep Safont (la Jana, 1990) presents at the Petit Espai a series of pieces and installations that invite the viewer to reflect on the relationships we establish with ourselves ourselves and around us.

“Many times we work by inertia. we take for granted some qualities or conditions in the materials, the relations or the situations. We need to take a moment to reflect on the labels that are given to us by the culture, everyday use or another person. What would happen if something that is considered 'waste' (for example the skin of garlic) is give him a different treatment from the one we have assumed as 'normal'? If we act in an unexpected way on matter, objects, relationships and people, we can get unexpected
and sometimes extraordinary results”, explains Safont.

Josep Safont is a textile artist based in Barcelona, who finished his studies at Escola Massana in 2019 and obtained the diploma and the Premi Extraordinari d'Ensenyaments Artístics that granted by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

He has been selected to attend various exhibitions and international seminars, among others, Homo Faber from Venice or the Summer School of Artistic and Contemporary Tapestry of Aubusson, both from the Michelangelo Foundation.

In 2020 he received the National Craft Award in the Talent category young awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya and, recently, one of the Rising Talents Awards Craft by Ateliers d'Art de France, which has allowed him to participate in the Maison & Object exhibition and show his work in Paris.

During the last years he has been developing his own techniques with materials that are
not conventionally seen as textiles, the result of which is now exhibited at the Fundació Espai Guinovart Agramunt.

Josep Safont sews feelings, embroiders ideas using needles threaded with the thread of sensitivity.
