SER VINYA

Josep Guinovart

Celler Jean Leon. Torrelavit

Jean Leon and Josep Guinovart merge in a perfect symbiosis between wine and art. Coinciding with the launch of Jean Leon Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2015, the Penedès winery is hosting the exhibition ‘Ser vinya’ by Guinovart, a painter, sculptor and engraver from Barcelona.

The beauty of the Penedès landscape captivated Guinovart and he created more than 30 wine-themed works, which he exhibited in 2007 at the Vinseum Museum in Vilafranca del Penedès, where it was one of his last living exhibitions.

The eight selected works, donated by private collectors, wineries and the Espai Guinovart in Agramunt, show the wine as a form of expression, in a range of reddish colors, with spots and streams, but also ocher, green and blue of the land and the landscape. Far from wanting to recreate nature and faithful to its plastic language, Guinovart incorporates into his works elements typical of the world he recreates, such as vines, grapes, bottles and glasses, as well as the earth.

The piece that best symbolizes the landscape surrounding the Jean Leon winery - now converted into the label of the new La Scala Vineyard - is 'The vines and the night', which evokes an old vineyard in all its splendor wrapped in deep blue d 'a full moon night. “It is one of the most emblematic pieces of Guinovart’s work, with its characteristic blues and ochres and the reliefs that are vines here; captures the poetry of this landscape that caught him so much. ”
